Mona Lisa: Gun Violence
Spring 2019, Oil Paint
This is a piece I made in order to provoke thought about gun violence and express my own ideas. I took one of the most iconic and recognizable paintings, the Mona Lisa, and added a bullet wound to her forehead and an orange background for gun violence awareness. I thought that by adding something so gruesome and shocking to a staple painting of global culture, I could prove how easily something beautiful can be destroyed when guns are present. Spreading awareness about gun violence is something very important to me because during this time after seeing school shooting after school shooting on the news, our generation is fearful and constantly wondering: could we be next?
